After this law went into effect, boat owners could go to any on-the-water police officer (local and Florida Wildlife and Conservation Commission - FWC - Officers) and ask for a safety boat inspection. If you pass the inspection, they should give you a decal that must be specifically mounted according to instructions on your boat, in which case an officer cannot stop you just for a vessel inspection. This does not include the Coast Guard. They can stop you for any reason.
