Harbor Masters Appreciation Day
US Harbors launches Harbormaster Appreciation Day
US Harbors is committed to promoting vital, sustainable coastal communities, – economically and environmentally – while providing tools to help people make good decisions when they’re on the coast.
US Harbors announces the creation of national Harbormaster Appreciation Day – celebrated annually on October 8th – a day when coastal communities come together to recognize and celebrate their local harbormasters.
Harbormasters are the stewards of our harbors – the center of our coastal communities. They manage the overall ecosystem, including moorings and docks, harbor uses and harbor users, and interactions between local, state and federal government. Of all of our public stewards (police, EMT, fire etc.) these men and women receive the least recognition for their services.
US Harbors is working to change this by giving the harbormasters of the United States the recognition they deserve. Harbormaster Appreciation Dayhas been registered as a national event that occurs annually on October 8th, with the inaugural event on Tuesday, October 8, 2019.
US Harbors will be launching a website dedicated to Harbormaster Appreciation Day at www.harbormasterday.com on Friday, August 30th. It includes video interviews with harbormasters around the country, educational information about what harbormasters do, and allows users to submit stories and photos of their harbormasters.
US Harbors is also orchestrating local events around the country, along with running an awareness campaign about harbormasters on social media from August 30, 2019 through Harbormaster Appreciation Day on October 8th, 2019. Harbormasters will receive a mailed letter of thanks – with a certificate of appreciation – the week of October 8th along with gifts from the 2019 Harbormaster Appreciation Day sponsors.
